CAPERNAUM, Israel (AP) — A new trail across northern Israel offers travelers the chance to walk — or trot — through New Testament sites in the footsteps of Jesus.

The newly opened Gospel Trail winds for 39 miles, heading from Nazareth, across gentle green hills, through Jewish and Arab towns and to Capernaum, the fishing town where Jesus is said to have established his home base. The Tourism Ministry believes the new trail may attract up to 200,000 Christian pilgrims to northern Israel over the coming year.

Christians are a rapidly growing segment of Israeli tourism, comprising about two-thirds of the 3.45 million people who visited in 2010.

On the Gospel Trail, tourists can ride toward the Sea of Galilee on horseback, accompanied by escorts from a nearby ranch wearing jeans, big belt buckles and embroidered cowboy boots with spurs. The scene feels more Texas than Gospel, especially because according to the New Testament, Jesus' mount of choice was a donkey. Horses were considered vehicles of war.

But as the horses canter to Capernaum, past the occasional grazing cow in a grassy pasture, with the sun setting over the distant hills of the Golan Heights, visitors can imagine for a moment that they have returned to the Holy Land of two millennia past.

The Gospel Trail, planned and researched for more than a decade, cost about $800,000. The government paid for two-thirds of it, the Jewish National Fund the rest. Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov said the trail is one element of a branding strategy to sell Israel's abundant religious sites to visitors.

Despite the large numbers of Christian tourists, for years little comprehensive information was available to those hoping to hike alone through the Galilee. Walking trails were marked but maps were in Hebrew, Israel's national language.

This began to change when two entrepreneurs developed a path they called the "Jesus Trail" in 2008, following a slightly different route from Nazareth to Capernaum. Founders David Landis and Maoz Inon offer guided hiking tours and a colorful tour book for the region, the best resource available for trekking in the steps of Jesus. Inon also founded a backpacking hostel in Nazareth.

The new Gospel Trail, by contrast, is a government project. It heads south out of Nazareth, beginning at Mount Precipice, where a mob nearly threw Jesus off a cliff after a sermon he made in a local synagogue. The summit provides sweeping views across the Galilee, from ancient Nazareth and down through the Jezreel Valley, today considered Israel's agricultural heartland. From there, the path goes to Mount Tabor, said to be the site of the Transfiguration, when Jesus spoke to Moses and Elijah and became radiant, and God called him his son. Today, priests celebrate Mass in a Franciscan church with soaring ceilings and pristine white marble floors.

From there, the trail winds north, passing, in springtime, through a carpet of anemones and cyclamens. A side path, also marked, heads to Kfar Kana, where Jesus is said to have turned water into wine. Then the Gospel Trail passes double extinct volcanos known as the Horns of Hattin — famous as the site where Saladin's Muslim army defeated the Crusaders in 1187. Today a lone mosque stands as one of the few remainders of an abandoned Arab village on the site.

Nearby is the town of Migdal, named for the ancient town of Magdala, said to be home to Mary Magdalene. Farther north, at Tabgha, the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes commemorates when Jesus fed a multitude with only a handful of food. And finally, travelers pass by the Mount of Beatitudes before heading to Capernaum, where a charming pink-domed white church gives a European look to the lush green surroundings.

The Gospel Trail includes suggestions to take a boat across the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus is said to have walked on water. The boats run between Capernaum and Kibbutz Ginosar, where marine archaeologists found and preserved a 2,000-year-old ancient fishing boat. Another boat route runs to Tiberias, a town dating back to 20 A.D.

All along the way, gas stations, quiet farming towns and luxurious guest houses offer places to recharge. The trail wends through picturesque Biblical landscapes and long stretches of neatly planted vegetables. It also runs alongside less attractive water distillation plants and rock quarries. Ministry spokespeople say they hope the trail will provide an incentive to entrepreneurs to open hotels and restaurants along the way.

A variety of options already exist for travelers, from the Fauzi Azar Inn tucked into Nazareth's Old City, to the luxurious Scots Hotel in Tiberias. There are also country cottages outside Jewish towns, simple beds on farms and homestays in Arab villages. Camping is also easy in the many parks along the trail.

Jose Leonardo, a chemical supervisor from Houston, walked the trail at Tel Kinrot, a hill filled with archaeological finds that looks over the Sea of Galilee. He hiked with a group of Christian pilgrims visiting Nazareth for the day as part of a week-long trip to Israel. Leonardo said he was especially moved by a visit to Mount Tabor. "It's great to walk where Christ actually walked and just to know that so much history is here," Leonardo said. "I think every Christian should come out here and actually experience that walk to get closer to God and know his land and his people."

Orkney Islands, UK
Hard to get to but worth the trip, these mostly uninhabited 70 islands off the coast of Scotland. Visit Skara Brae, a Neolithic settlement and UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the lovely harbor at Kirkwall, the largest town. People have been living there since prehistoric times and they have produced a lot of poets, writers, and musicians. Lots of fresh fish available for seafood lovers.

Bali
Long a fantasy vacation destination, then give Bali a try. It has grace and aesthetic appeal. The colors, the artistic sense of the Balinese. Weaving, carving, dancing, play instruments, and singing are some of the talents of the Balinese. The houses are beautiful, the clothes are beautiful, the temples, and the wonderful dances and ceremonies. Many travelers head to Bali's beaches but traditional crafts and ceremonies can best be seen inland around the town of Ubud.

Costa Rica
Guanacaste on the northwest Pacific coast. It has many resorts, is on the Pan American Highway and is easily accessible by air from the USA. Happiness here is related to simplicity.

It has one of the oldest cultures on Earth, plus a friendly populace and welcoming feel. Also known as the Kiriwina Islands, complex Pacific society off the coast of New Guinea. This is a place where people feel welcome. The people of Trobriand Islands are perfectly content with what they have. It is far offshore and a hard place to get to, but worth it.

It was perfect timing to take another great trip to the Sandals Royal Bahamian! This was our third time down since 2005 and I noticed some major changes and renovations! First off, I was booked in the Royal Oceanfront One Bedroom Suite with Butler service. With this room, you have private Mercedes transfers a massive room and a butler on call 24 hours a day for your every whim. The butler greets you in the lobby and takes you straight to your room. They already have your dinner reservations set up for you and most importantly reserve your private hut on their private island DAILY upon request. The butler gives you a cell phone where you can call them from any location on the resort at any time! Very good service in that respect.
The main changes to this resort in the last couple of years is the upgrades to the beach, rooms and Royal Village landscaping. They have brought in sand to create 2 extra pristine white beaches, one on Sandals Cay and one on their location at Cable beach. The rooms have all been renovated and look amazing! The Royal Village gardens are just amazing with rose covered trellises and walking trails.

Food quality at this resort is always great! Room service is prompt and is served good and hot. The best places to eat are Gordon's on the Pier, Baccarat and Casanovas.

If your looking for things to do, this is the place! You can tour the Atlantis and go to their water park, go snorkeling on the boat excursion offered by Sandals, Scuba dive, Swim with the Sea Lions and Dolphins, take a boat trip to the Exumas, etc... This is important for me, because I love to keep busy on vacation...Go figure :)
All in all the Sandals Royal Bahamian is an amazing resort, full of good food, good service and most importantly a private island that could rival anything in the Caribbean!

DOT Requires Taxes, Fees Be Included in Advertised Prices

The Department of Transportation (DOT) officially, finally, unveiled a series of consumer protections rules aimed at increasing transparency and fairness in the airline industry. The rules were proposed last June and won't take effect for 120 days.

Here are the main components of the new rules:

•Airlines must refund bag fees paid for bags that are lost in transit. Note that the rule stipulates bags that are lost, not delayed. That the DOT decided to exclude delayed bags from this provision is probably the most disappointing aspect of the rules. Bag fees ostensibly cover the shipping cost of your luggage. In many retail situations, customers with delayed shipments are often compensated with refunds or vouchers, in what seems like an obvious "make it right" scenario. Not so here. Worse, the definition of "lost" is left ambiguous, and presumably to the airlines' discretion. It can take days and even weeks for an airline to qualify a bag as lost, meaning passengers will have to be patient if they want their $25 back. And as the DOT notes, "Airlines are already required to compensate passengers for reasonable expenses for loss, damage or delay in the carriage of passenger baggage." So this strikes me as a "why bother?"

•Full-fare advertising or bust. Advertised fares will include all mandatory taxes and fees, meaning the price you see is the price you'll pay (prior to tacking on ancillary charges, such as bag fees). This rule applies to any ticket seller, whether it's the airline, an online travel agent, or a human travel agent. Travel agents will also have to disclose bag fee information both before and after the consumer purchases their ticket. The agency had proposed a dual-price system, where one fare included mandatory taxes and another included taxes plus some basic ancillary fees, but this model was deemed too cumbersome to be useful (rightly, I'd say) and was dispatched.

•Bag fee changes on airline homepages for three months. The DOT did follow through on its proposal to require carriers to, in its own words, "promptly and prominently disclose any increase in its fees for carry-on or checked baggage and any change in the checked baggage allowance for a passenger on the carrier’s homepage." The notice should be obvious and remain in place for three months, and the rule also applies to foreign carriers that advertise or sell air tickets in the U.S.

•Web page for all ancillary fees. Similarly, The DOT will require carriers to create "one central webpage on their website, linked from the carrier’s homepage, which lists all ancillary fees." That's all ancillary fees. Currently, most airlines have their fees scattered all over their websites, making it nearly impossible to track them all down in an efficient manner.

•Compensation for bumping gets a bump. The new rules increase the minimum denied boarding compensation limits to $650 for short flights and $1,300 for longer flights, or 200%/400% of the one-way fare, whichever is smaller. The rules will apply to "zero fare" tickets, such as award flights, which are currently exempt from compensation requirements. The DOT will also adjust for inflation every two years.

•Tarmac delay rules extended to international carriers. The DOT will impose a four-hour limit on tarmac delays for international flights, including those operated by foreign carriers. Food and water must be provided, as is the case with the existing three-hour rule for domestic flights. Interestingly, the DOT noted that "The extended tarmac delays experienced by passengers on international flights operated by foreign carriers at New York’s JFK Airport during the December 2010 blizzard was an important factor" in crafting this rule.

•Lots of smaller changes. The new rules also include a ban on post-purchase increase, except when directly tied to new or increased government taxes; require airlines to communicate delays of over 30 minutes at the boarding gate, on its website, and via its telephone system; and allow passengers to hold a reservation for 24 hours without payment and cancel said reservation without penalty.

In sum, these rules represent a meaningful win for passengers, and in most cases hold true to the original proposals put forth last year. Notably absent is any regulation on peanut service, which was a surprisingly controversial component of those proposals. And, as I mentioned above, the bag fee refund policy is disappointing. If an airline loses your bag, you have a lot more to worry about than a $25 fee. In my opinion, the DOT blew a chance to hold airlines accountable for the fee that causes the most pain among consumers.
But from a consumer standpoint, the agencies requirements surrounding fare and fee transparency are huge, and will fundamentally affect the way we shop for airline tickets. Simply being able to see an airline's entire menu of ancillary fees, and compare those fees to other carriers', is a major change. This app appears to have been EVERYWHERE and packed EVERTHING. The lists/suggestions are extensive and if something has been left out, you can add it. Everyone wants to go to Ireland, and it seems that everyone wants to go in the summer. Now don’t get me wrong. There is much good to be said about the warm days of summer on the greenest of islands. However, fall, winter, and spring offer their own special charms, as well as being amazingly affordable times to travel. The scenery is still stunning, the people are still Irish (and maybe more so, relieved of the pressure of so many tourists) and the pub life is especially warm and friendly.

Most destinations have a prime season for travel that coincides with excellent weather. Throughout this “peak season”, the crowds tend to be heavy and the prices high. Ireland’s peak season is the summer months: mid-June through mid-September. When the weather is typically less than balmy, destinations experience a “shoulder season” and a “low season.” Shoulder season in Ireland is April, May, early June and early October. Shane's getaway to the Fearrington House Country Inn

Fearrington House/Village are part of the Relais et Chateaux, so you know the quality is gonna be A+. Conde Nast Traveller readers have rated " The Fearrington House Country Inn" located in Pittsboro, NC, approximate 8 miles from Chapel Hill, NC, as one of the top 100 rated hotels in the World! There is a reason for this accolade.

We stayed in the "Grand Suite". The value was phenomenal--and Grand it was!!!! We had a separate house (#35) with it's own gated courtyard. And the room had two sitting areas, a library/den/dressing room (with incredible storage space), a master bathroom with Molton Brown products, heated floors, a whirlpool tub, separate shower, dual sinks, and a toilet in it's own large room. There was even a docking station for the iPhone!

The welcome upon arrival was so warm. Soledad who manages the property could not have been nicer. She presented us with The Fearrington House Cookbook, showed us the entire grounds, and brought us to our room (or house!). There was fruit and a tray of petit fours. Every night tawny port and two glasses appeared, along with Ghirardelli dark chocolate, sea salt potato chips, "Jelly Belly" beans,and mineral water. Juan the sales manager showed us around the grounds. This property has fainting goats, belted galloway cows and hiking trails throughout.

The Village of Fearrington consists of many shops and little places to eat. No doubt, this is probably the best venue for a wedding that I have ever seen. They have a decorated barn that can accommodate 300 guests (fully catered) and they also have a wedding planner on site that will do everything from start to finish. You can get married outside in their beautifully manicured grounds or in the barn.

Breakfast (accompanied by the NY Times paper) in The Fearrington House Restaurant was delicious and served professionally. Afternoon tea with scones, jams, clotted cream, pastries, tea sandwiches, etc. was reminiscent of the UK-- without the outrageous cost.

We had the 3 course dinner in The Fearrington House Restaurant and it was comparable to many Michelin starred restaurants in which we have dined. The foie gras, the rabbit and the chocolate souffle were all exceptional. Phillip who served us 2X was excellent, knowledgeable and quite personable.

Massages at the new beautiful spa would be a perfect way to end a stay here!

Working With A Travel Agent Has Advantages During Winter Weather

The winter weather that the United States has experienced so far has provided many examples of the benefits of booking air travel with a travel agent instead of an online travel site. First, went planning a flight that requires a connection, a travel agent will take a common sense approach and look for the lowest fares available with connections in Southern airports where weather is less likely to be a factor during the Winter months. An online travel site will not. It will produce lowest fare without considering connections.

Over that past few weeks, we have had clients that were required to fly north or were flying into airports where Winter weather is normally not a problem such as Atlanta or San Antonio. Our clients are able to call our Travel Agents and get assistance from a real person and someone they know; instead of being stuck on hold with the airlines trying to make alternative arrangements. Our agents have "real time" access to all available flights and assist clients in getting to their destination during difficult weather.

Travel Agents cannot control the weather or the airlines, but when our clients are in a stuck in an airport they take comfort knowing that they have someone on their side working to get them to their destination.

How To Protect Yourself from Bedbugs

I know that we don't want to talk about it, but bedbugs have become such an issue that several websites have sprung up to help travelers scope out hotels at their destination. Check out http://www.bedbugregistry.com/ and http://www.bedbugreports.com/.

Whether a hotel has bedbugs is not a reflection of luxury or not. Any lodging establishment can become infested because they provide the food source: sleeping bodies.

So how do you protect yourself ? First thing to do is to make sure the hotel isn't on a "hot list." Second, is to get out the folding luggage rack with the metal legs. Pest Management of Texas President, Brian DiCicco, says, "The bugs have a hard time getting a grip on those legs, so your suitcase and its contents may be protected from an invasion."

Next, he recommends taking the sheets off the mattress and look at the seams on the bed — they can accumulate on the seams." The bugs are big enough to see--about the size of an apple seed.

He also recommends removing and inspecting the head broad. Look for traces of fecal spotting and dark brown stain that results from people's blood.

Just so you know, bedbugs don't generally transmit disease. You can consider that the good news.

Trip to Couples San Souci

Couples San Souci in Ocho Rios, Jamaica was wonderful. When we first got to the Couples lounge in the Montego Bay airport we were greeted by a very friendly reception. The ride to the resort itself was about 2 hours from the airport but it was educational.

The resort sets on a hillside. It is very tropical and lush location, which to me, made it even better.

View from our room was superb, it was exactly what I was hoping for. The food was excellent, there are 3 restaurants on site and each one had great food and service.

The spa is located on a hillside next to the ocean. We took time out to get a couples massage, totally recommend, nothing like listening to the waves crash on the cliffs and the birds singing while you get a massage.

Hurricane Tomas was in the area it rained almost the entire time during our stay, but there was so many activities and things to do on the resort, we did not get bored at all. The staff was so upbeat and friendly even though they were having to work double time to keep the grounds clean because of wind and rain. They always had a smile on their faces, which made the resort that much better.

Cannot wait to return!!!

Touring the Resort at Paws Up

Today at Paws Up we toured the ranch. Not all 37,000 acres, but we went to River Camp that is located on the Blackfoot River.

Like all Tent Camps, River Camp has a Dining Tent that is where breakfast and dinners are served. The campsites have a large fire pit for nightly fires and for toasting smores.

At River Camp, there are one bedroom and two bedrooms tents. The Bath house is a few steps away from the tents. The Bath house has all the amenities of a luxury bath in the cabins. If you think that you are not the camping types. I think camping at River Camp at the Resort at Paws up will change your mind.

The Blackfoot River is beautiful and peaceful as it flow through the Ranch. In the Summer guests can fly fish and raft on the River. Since we visited in October, we were able to ride ATVs along the river.

One of our stops on the ATV ride was at "Look Out Rock." The view of the river and the mountains is incredible. The ATV riding was the most fun activity of the weekend.

It was cold but we bundled up and had a great time speeding around the ranch and getting dusty.

Resort at Paws Up - Wilderness Estates

The Wilderness Estate home has all the amenities of well-appointed home but on steroids. The front porch had view overlooking the prairie field that leads to the mountains. Evenings can be spent star gazing from the porch’s rocking chairs and benches.

The downstairs has an open floor plan with a huge stone wood-burning fireplace, leather sofas and chairs, dining table and a deluxe kitchen with a full size refrigerator, wine cooler, stove, and dishwasher.

Inside the home are flat screens televisions in each of the living room, game room and each bedroom, wireless Internet, Wii game system and satellite television.

Each bedroom is a master suite with separate shower and jetted-tubs in each bathroom.

My Room:
I have the upstairs suite beside the game room loft.

My bathroom over looked the back yard.

Shane’s Room:
Shane had the Master suite with the jetted tub overlooking the front porch and mountain view.

Chuck’s Room:
This room has a door leading to the back patio and jacuzzi tub and a wet bar.

All the rooms were beautifully decorated and the bathrooms were incredible: heated tile floors and showers, rain shower-heads, jetted-tubs and heated towel rack.

The attention to detail in all of the rooms, furnishings and decor were unmatched by any other resort where I have stayed. They even delivered our electric car, parked it in the driveway and plugged in up for us. This car was the highlight of our stay. It was always to race to see who would get to the driver's seat first.

Tomorrow, we drive to the Blackfoot River and see the Tent Camps and go horseback riding.

Trip to Resort at Paws Up - Getting There

With much anticipation, we arrive at the Missoula airport to begin our stay at Resort at Paws Up. The airport is small, so it is hard to imagine that we would walk right past our driver as he waited by the elevator to meet us. But we almost did. I think that we were too busy looking up at all the animal heads and animals mounted on the wall: Elk, Moose, Rams and Mountain Lions. Tanner, our driver, helped us collect our bags and loaded the Paws Up SUV.

We had about a 45 minute ride to the resort, but the resort staff had prepared snacks for our journey. We each had our own personal cooler packed with sandwich, cookies, chips, apples, candy bar, trail mix, fruit roll-up, soda and water. I guess they wanted to make sure that there was at least one item that we would like.

This was not our first experience to the attention to detail that Paws Up delivers for their visitors. Three and ½ weeks earlier, Paws Up Guest Services emailed us information about weather, dining, activities, what to wear and what to expect when we arrived. Within a few days, we had a phone call with Guest Services to talk our upcoming stay, activities, spa appointments and special needs. The staff takes every measure to ensure guests have a spectacular stay in Montana.

The drive to the resort gave us the opportunity view the Montana landscape and get a little local history of Missoula and Paws Up from Tanner.

We arrive at Resort at Paws Up and enter the Village. Located in the Village at Paws Up is the Lewis & Clark Reception Barn, Cook Shack, Resort Reservations, PUGS General Store, the Bull Barn, Bunkhouse and Helipad. We check-in at the Reception Barn. This Barn is like no other barn I have seen, big screen flat panel TVs, Pool table, Soda-stocked bar, fitness room and reception desk. The barn is open and available to guest 24/7.

After checking-in, Tanner drives us to our Wilderness Estate home where we will be spending the next few days.

American Dollars no longer freely accepted in Mexico

The Mexican Government passed a new law, which comes into effect in Mexico starting September 14, 2010. I wanted to share the information, which I have received from our off offices in Mexico so everyone is aware.

Starting September 14, 2010 the use of CASH American Dollars to make purchases in Mexico will not be as free as it has been in the past.

Many repeat guests to Mexico who have become accustomed to using American Dollars CASH in Mexico as though they were effectively in the United States will notice the difference. Other payment methods such as Credit Cards of all types and all issuing banks, Travelers Check’s, Mexican Pesos and non American Dollars foreign currencies in cash (ex Euros or Canadian Dollars) are not affected in any way by this new law.

The most noticeable differences to will be:

1. Hotels and Exchange Booths will only be able to change a maximum of $1,500 USD CASH per person per month into Mexican Pesos. Previously there was no limit.

2. Businesses (including Amstar DMC in Mexico) will only be able to accept a maximum of $100 USD CASH per transaction - but the number of transactions per customer is not restricted.

3. Certain businesses may not be able to, or may choose not to accept American Dollars CASH for any purchase at all (this may include shops etc)

If a customer wants to purchase an excursion (for example) that costs $139 US dollars per person, he/she will only be able to pay $100 USD of this amount in USD CASH and the remainder will need to be in another form of payment (credit card, Mexican Pesos cash, etc).

Vacationers should never carry large amounts of American Dollars cash with them to Mexico, but instead they should consider either using a Credit Card, taking Mexican Pesos cash, taking Travelers Check’s (of any currency) or withdrawing money locally in Mexican Pesos.

Couple has blast in Costa Rica

Here are some pics from Costa Rica. Ryan and I had a blast – it was very romantic and a lot of fun…we had a couples massage at the resort, we did the zip-lining, saw monkeys and toucans, rode horses, did the mud/hot springs and tried a crazy mountain water slide deep in the jungle! We also went off the resort for a romantic lobster dinner in the local town right on the beach

Thank you again for helping Ryan with this. I really enjoyed the trip and feel so blessed and lucky to have such an amazing, generous man in my life.

Hopefully we will plan another trip next year to a new tropical local and we will definitely call you for your expertise (and hopefully I will get to meet you as well)!

Well...we just got back from our honeymoon you selected for us and we just wanted to send a BIG THANK YOU to you....We could not be happier...that place was magical and beyond our wildest dreams...the staff there was soooo friendly and every little detail was thought of...Not to mention the hook up to and from the airport....a private Lincoln Navigator for just me and him...as everyone else stood waiting in line....We can not say enough about that place....words and photos do not do it justice....We took over 400 photos before my camera maxed out...I sent you an email with some of them...hopefully it came through....that place was EXACTLY what we were looking for and I think you read our minds in the brief half hour or so we were in there talking to you....we are already saving to go back for maybe our 5 year anniversary...I don't think we will ever go anywhere else......we truely appreciate it and love that place. We felt like a king and a queen...we even tried to stay another night but it was too $$$...ha...the flight schedule was perfect, trip to and from the airport, the food selection, drinks, setting, EVERYTHING! I HATE flying and it was sooo worth it.....

Conde Nast Traveler magazine published the 50 islands we love list in their July issue. They pulled the list from reader reviews over the past 20 years and ranked those that consistently scored 90% or better in several categories. All of these islands are wonderful places for honeymoons or destination weddings.

Reading the reviews only added to my list of places to go. Surprisingly, some do not require a passport for U.S. travelers. Maine's Mount Desert Island, South Carolina's Kiawah and Hilton Head Islands and on the Great Lakes, Makinac Island.

We celebrated our 1 year anniversary at Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas from June 3 - 10, 2010. The previous year we were married at Sandals Grande Antigua. Just when we thought nothing could top our Antigua trip, Sandals Emerald Bay did just that! This resort is a former Four Seasons and has been newly renovated and 'Sandalized' to perfection! From the moment we arrived to the second we left we were truly treated like royalty! Being an all butler resort your every need and want will definitely be met. The grounds are gorgeous with tropical flowers everywhere. The rooms are spacious and well kept. The food and drinks are plentiful - you certainly won't go hungry! The beach is the best we have ever seen - the water bluer than the sky and the sand as soft as powder. There are NO vendors on the beach which was a nice alternative to many other Caribbean beaches.

Most days we were able to relax to the fullest by the pool in a cabana. We would notify our butler that we had reserved a cabana or umbrella and he would proceed to stock it with towels and a cooler full of drinks to our liking. Not once did we have to order our drinks from the pool bar, as our butler was great at anticipating our needs. Before we would even realize we were thirsty he was delivering a frozen concoction to us in our cabana or while we were floating in the pool. AMAZING service!! Our butler also served our lunch in our cabana each day which was so nice to not have to get dressed to go to a restaurant.

This resort has 183 rooms and 5 restaurants. We hear they are planning to add many more rooms and several more restaurants in the coming year. We highly recommend visiting this resort before the new additions are made because as of now it's not overcrowded and it has such an intimate feel. We were told that rates will definitely go up once additional rooms and restaurants are added. We certainly want to return once the renovations have been made to experience the changes and additional upgrades compared to our first visit.

There are lots of great excursion that I encourage you to participate in, including free daily snorkeling trips! This was the best snorkeling we have ever done. We were taken to a fairly shallow location that included several large blue holes where the ocean floor would literally be open with millions of fish inside. Some of the blue holes were 30 feet deep - AMAZING!!

Another excursion not to miss is the Thunderball Grotto tour. This is a full day tour where you are taken to see the swimming pigs (yes! pigs!), nurse sharks, giant iguanas, among other exotic sea life. A stop is made on a 2 mile long sand bar in the middle of the ocean with unbelievable views! Lastly, you are taken to the underwater cave, Thunderball Grotto - where a James Bond flick was filmed, among other movies. You can snorkel inside the cave or you might choose to jump through the top of one of the many openings into the 30 feet deep waters which are filled with the most colorful fish you will ever seen. Truly an unforgettable experience!

Even if you aren't a golfer, at minimum, you must either walk the course or take a (free) guided tour in a golf cart - the views are absolutely stunning!! We typically make it a point not to return to the same resorts or locations as there are just so many more to experience but we will definitely be returning to Sandals Emerald Bay in Great Exuma, Bahamas, because, as they say, it truly is 'better in the Bahamas'!!!! :)

The price of a passport goes up next week.

A passport is necessary to enter most foreign countries. It is required for entry into the United States, even if you’re an American citizen. It also serves as proof of U.S. citizenship and identity.

The U.S. Passport Book and U.S. Passport Card for adults are valid for 10 years. Passports for minors under age 16 are valid for five years.

The cost of a passport book for first-time adult applicants will increase to $135. Renewal will cost $110. The price for minors will be $105. A first-time passport card will cost $55, a renewal will be $30 and a minor’s card will be $40. The fees do not include other charges for additional visa pages, file searches or expediting the application process.

A passport card is different from the passport book. The passport card can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry. It cannot be used for international travel by air or to re-enter the United States by air.

A poll of business travelers from four major economies commissioned by Marriott Hotels & Resorts indicates that 2010 may be shaping up as a year of transition from economic pessimism to greater confidence. More than 60% of 1,207 respondents in four countries agree that business travel is essential; 75% of Chinese plan to travel more. Key survey findings include:
• Approximately one-third of business travelers polled in the U.S. (35%), UK (33%), and Germany (33%) think their economies will improve. Another third – U.S. (36%), U.K. (37%), and Germany (35%) – believe things have leveled off economically and will stay the same. About three in 10 – U.S. (29%), U.K. (30%), and Germany (33%) – forecast their national economy will get worse. China is the exception, with 81% of responders saying their economy will improve.
• In China, only 13% fear job loss in the coming year, versus 39% in the U.K., 34% in Germany, and 29% in the U.S. Once their economies improve, 66% of business travelers in China, 51% in the U.K., 40% in the U.S., and 39% in Germany plan to seek new jobs.
• Although affected by a lack of jobs, millennials (referred to in the survey as Generation Y), ages 21-29, in the U.S. and U.K. express greater optimism about the economy than their older colleagues. Millennials in the U.S., U.K., and Germany also foresee more business trips in the coming year than their Baby Boomer counterparts.
• Most responders in all four countries say business travel gives their companies and their careers a competitive edge. More than nine in 10 agree business travel is important to achieve business goals, reaching a high of 96% among the Chinese. U.S. responders are most likely to say (82%), travel provides critical face-to-face time with clients and customers, followed by 77% in Germany, 74% in China, and 72% in the U.K.
• Business travelers predicting more travel next year: U.S. (22%), U.K. (20%), Germany (20%) and China (63%).
These are findings from “Global Business Trends in the Third Millennium”, a Marist Institute for Public Opinion poll of 1,207 business travelers in the U.S., China, Germany and the U.K. The study examines trends in the economy, business travel, career and personal goals, and generational and cultural differences.
“The findings mirror indications of the economic recovery in our hotels across the globe, where we are seeing improvement in corporate travel reflecting pent-up demand after two years of cutbacks,” said Don Semmler, executive vice president, global full-service brands for Marriott International. ““With nearly 500 hotels in 60 countries, Marriott Hotels & Resorts has tremendous insight and 50 years’ experience serving business travelers. Agency AM Resorts Riviera Maya FAM Trip a Success

During the FAM Trip, our base resort was Secrets Maroma Beach, which was the perfect place to start! Every room has a Jacuzzi, balcony, king bed, plasma TV and full 24 hour room service. The biggest benefit of Secrets Maroma Beach is the BEACH. It has the best beach of any of the resorts we visited, hands down. Wide and long beach with white sand and clear blue water.

Food at all AM Resorts is top notch! Below is a quick run down of each of the other resorts and some quick ratings from me.

ALL of these hotels have a world class spa so I'll keep that out of each description. There is nothing like the spas in Mexico!!!

Secrets Silversands is the coolest art deco Mexican themed hotel I've ever seen. Great pools, lively crowd and multiple choices for dining. If there is a downside it is the beach. It's the smallest and narrowest beach of all of the resorts we visited. The resort makes up for the lack of beach by having a pool for each building. If you can enjoy a little beach and a lot of pools, this is the best resort for the money! Awesome rooms with the full Jacuzzi, balcony, king bed, plasma, room service etc...

Secrets Capri is the most quaint and classic style of the Secrets chain. Quaint and intimate and every room includes preferred club amenities. Great beach, great pool, EXCELLENT service but less activity going on at the resort. This is much better for the travelers seeking peace and quiet.

Dreams Riviera Cancun has the best lobby of all of the resorts. Stretching from the front of the resort all the way to the beach! Lively crowd, great for kids, great food options and a kids club. Rooms here are also nothing to scoff at!

Dreams Tulum is my favorite of the family resorts that we visited. MASSIVE property with both old and new architecture. It's very lush and tropical with an AMAZING beach that views the Mayan ruins of Tulum! WOW! They even have a classic Spanish Colonial Church here with the wooden pews, that was my favorite part of this property! Unreal!

Dreams Puerto Aventuras is right in town. Lots to do including a dolphin park and shops. This resort has an adults only section and the kids side. Great beach, MASSIVE round shaped rooms and all the food you care to eat. For the price a real winner!

Now Jade resort is also a great little budget family property. More of a larger hotel set up. Good Beach, Good Food, Good Service. I would say this is a very good 3 star resort.

Now Sapphire resort is a bungalow style, laid back "Hawaiiain-ish" resort. They are renovating 100 of their rooms by the end of the year so those will be great. As of right now their only main problem is how hard the beds are! Once they update all of the rooms it won't be a problem.

All in all it was the best Fam I've ever been privy too. Great spas, great everything. I definitely give the trip two thumbs up!

For those true “football” fans this is an awesome time…FIFA World Cup! Held every 4 years, the 2010 FIFA World Cup is the 19th FIFA World Cup. It is the premier international association football tournament uniting the most recognized players in the world. The opening game was June 11 in the host country of South Africa and will conclude on July 11, 2010. Qualifying for the World Cup is not easy…it began in August of 2007 and involved 204 of the 208 FIFA national teams.
This is the 1st time the World Cup has been hosted by an African Nation. There are 10 venues in South Africa and they are as follows: Johannesburg (Soccer City), Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg (Ellis Park Stadium), Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Rustenburg and Nelspruit. Five new stadiums were built for the tournament, and five of the existing venues were upgraded. In addition to the stadiums built and upgraded, South Africa also improved its current public transport within the host cities, including Johannesburg's Gautrain and other metro systems, and improved major road networks. The country implemented special measures to ensure the safety and security of local and international tourists attending the matches in accordance with standard FIFA requirements, including a temporary restriction of flight operation in the airspace surrounding the stadiums.

Orlando Sentinel offers insight into the new Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction

Harry Potter fans everywhere (including Shane at A Way To Go Travel) are anticipating the June 18th opening of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Shane has tracked the progress of the construction and tried to discover any previews or insight into what the attraction will be. He found an article published by the Orlando Sentinel. The article tauts the attraction as a cross between Island of Adventure's Spiderman, Soaring at Epcot and a ultra modern version of Disney's Haunted Mansion. After much investigation, Shane was able to get a sneak-peak review of the attraction.

"It's not a ride on a magical broomstick, but the Wizarding World of Harry Potter may be home to the next-best thing! The park opens June 18th!!!Theme-park guests aboard the new Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure will be tossed, turned and dangled over scenery — and scary moments — similar to what the boy wizard encountered in the Potter films.Passengers ride in a row of four people on a so-called enchanted bench (really, a broomstick wouldn't be very comfortable or secure, would it?) An over-shoulder harness lowers to secure them for a twisting journey on a robotic arm that throws riders from side to side, through surging, forward-moving maneuvers and eventually completely on their backs — although never completely upside down.After winding through Forbidden Journey's extensively themed queue and making a left turn at the sorting hat, guests are lead to a moving sidewalk and settle back into the seats. Team members lower the harnesses into place while music from the films' opening credits play. Overhead are levitating candles like those seen in the Great Hall in the films.

The ride experience resembles a cross between IOA's classic Spider-Man ride, Soarin' at Epcot and even an ultramodern version of Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion.Yes, there are scary moments. The frightful Dementors pop out of nowhere next to the ride vehicle — these are three-dimensional forms, not projections. And the arachnophobes among us will find the very dark spider scenes seem very long. (The whole ride is about four minutes long.) I was caught off guard a few times and let out audible gasps.The attraction combines use of a robotic arm, immersive filmed scenes with original Potter actors (including star Daniel Radcliffe) and animatronic props such as a large steam-breathing dragon and those big, icky spiders. The vehicle swoops smoothly through these components and follows Harry through scenarios, including one especially disorienting romp where riders are airborne and suddenly in the midst of a Quidditch match.Fear not, there's a happy ending and a celebration before returning to the loading station and — like magic — into an extensive gift shop full of Potterabilia."

Claudia Murphy's trip to Manchester England and the Lake District

My husband Aidan and I went to visit his family in Manchester for my sister-in-law’s wedding. What a great trip! I had not been home with him since we got married in 1995…they keep coming here. I’ve traveled quite a bit in my years as an agent but on this occasion I got to see things not as a tourist but as a “local”. My father-in-law took me to Old Trafford where Manchester United plays and where my husband played when he was a professional footballer. It was awesome because I got to go behind the scenes where the normal tours don’t take you. Next, we visited a local chippy for fish and chips…love it! One of the best meals I had while I was there. After the wedding we all packed up and went to Lake Windermere in Bowness. I saw some of the most beautiful countryside I had ever seen. We took the ferry to Ambleside and walked the cobblestone streets then drove to Keswick and ate in a local pub. Drank lots of wine and had a great time with the family. When we got back to Manchester we had lunch at a tapas restaurant at the Trafford Center…I’ve been to Mall of the America’s in Minneapolis and the Trafford Center is close to being as large as Mall of the America’s. Our last day we went to Bury Market…similar to our farmer’s markets but with so much more! The scariest part of the trip…I drove my in-laws car! Didn’t have a hard time driving on the left hand side but having to change gears with my left hand proved to be quite challenging! I’m looking forward to our next trip to Manchester!

Shane Lawrence goes to Ireland

This was my first trip with CIE tours and was very impressed. We decided to check out the tour that covered Dublin, Donegal, Galway, Furbo, Killarney and Blarney which is approximately 900 miles drive. The first two nights were in Dublin where we took in St Patrick’s Cathedral, the Book of Kells and Trinity College which were all amazing. We stayed the night in the Clontarf Castle which we felt was the perfect mix between old world and new. Next we traveled by motor coach to Donegal where the Belleek pottery factory and the Sleive League cliffs are located. Sleive League is the highest cliffs in Europe at an amazing 1972 feet. Next we traveled to the Cong/Galway area where we stayed at the Connemara Coast Hotel. Galway Bay is one of the locations where they filmed PS I Love You and is just down the road from the famous Ashford Castle Hotel. Next on the tour was Killarney, home to the famous Ring of Kerry. Killarney is also located on the west coast of Ireland and is full of beautiful Churches, Castles and shops. The Ring of Kerry was a 4 hour drive around the coast line and to this day is my wife’s favorite destination that weve ever traveled to. From there we went on to kiss the Blarney stone at Blarney Castle. Blarney Castle has to be one of the most beautiful Castles I’ve ever seen. Thousands of acres of lakes, forests and gardens are there to captivate the imagination! Our last and final stop was the Rock of Cashel. This Hogwarts Castle looking structure is the oldest of all Castles in Ireland. It was visited by St Patrick himself back in the late third century. CIE did a fabulous job and took us to great restaurants and showed us around their beautiful country in style. I will definitely be planning these trips for my clients in the future!
